7-tips for speaking english

The long-standing theatre phrase "Illusion of the First Time" means that when an actor performs in a play for the 10th, 100th or 1,000th time, he or she must create the illusion that this is the first time the actor has said these words, used these expressions or made these movements. The audience wants and expects an aura of freshness.

Likewise, superlative speakers need to give an obviously "live" presentation. No matter how many times you have talked about this topic previously, today's audience is hearing you for the first time. My seven tips will help you create the appearance of spontaneous vitality.

1.Select a topic that captivates you, one you will continue to be excited about after hours of preparation and numerous presentations.

2.Do not memorize your speech. If you do, you will sound like a reciter, rather than an individual who wants to share his or her thoughts convincingly.

3.Focus on remembering and sharing key words and major points. The exact wording is not all that important. Your listeners will want to believe you are speaking "off the cuff," although you have prepared thoroughly.

4.Move away from the podium. Get close to the audience physically. Did you ever see a sales person standing behind a lectern while closing the deal on your new car? Of course not. Proximity generates vitality.

5.Use ordinary language. Avoid big words that people don't use in daily dialogue. Say "avoid" instead of "eschew" and "legal action" instead of "litigation."

6.Have the courage to ad lib, and let listeners know you are doing it. Say, "I hadn't planned on including this quotation, but it is so relevant I want to share it with you."

7.Picture yourself having a conversation with an individual, and speak like that to your audience--which is nothing more than a collection of individuals.

The History of Computers

While computers are now an important part of the lives of human beings, there was a time where computers did not exist. Knowing the history of computers and how much progression has been made can help you understand just how complicated and innovative the creation of computers really is.

Unlike most devices, the computer is one of the few inventions that does not have one specific inventor. Throughout the development of the computer, many people have added their creations to the list required to make a computer work. Some of the inventions have been different types of computers, and some of them were parts required to allow computers to be developed further.

The Beginning

Perhaps the most significant date in the history of computers is the year 1936. It was in this year that the first "computer" was developed. It was created by Konrad Zuse and dubbed the Z1 Computer. This computer stands as the first as it was the first system to be fully programmable. There were devices prior to this, but none had the computing power that sets it apart from other electronics.

It wasn't until 1942 that any business saw profit and opportunity in computers. This first company was called ABC computers, owned and operated by John Atanasoff and Clifford Berry. Two years later, the Harvard Mark I computer was developed, furthering the science of computing.

Over the course of the next few years, inventors all over the world began to search more into the study of computers, and how to improve upon them. Those next ten years say the introduction of the transistor, which would become a vital part of the inner workings of the computer, the ENIAC 1 computer, as well as many other types of systems. The ENIAC 1 is perhaps one of the most interesting, as it required 20,000 vacuum tubes to operate. It was a massive machine, and started the revolution to build smaller and faster computers.

The age of computers was forever altered by the introduction of International Business Machines, or IBM, into the computing industry in 1953. This company, over the course of computer history, has been a major player in the development of new systems and servers for public and private use. This introduction brought about the first real signs of competition within computing history, which helped to spur faster and better development of computers. Their first contribution was the IBM 701 EDPM Computer.

A Programming Language Evolves

A year later, the first successful high level programming language was created. This was a programming language not written in 'assembly' or binary, which are considered very low level languages. FORTRAN was written so that more people could begin to program computers easily.

The year 1955, the Bank of America, coupled with Stanford Research Institute and General Electric, saw the creation of the first computers for use in banks. The MICR, or Magnetic Ink Character Recognition, coupled with the actual computer, the ERMA, was a breakthrough for the banking industry. It wasn't until 1959 that the pair of systems were put into use in actual banks.

During 1958, one of the most important breakthroughs in computer history occurred, the creation of the integrated circuit. This device, also known as the chip, is one of the base requirements for modern computer systems. On every motherboard and card within a computer system, are many chips that contain information on what the boards and cards do. Without these chips, the systems as we know them today cannot function.

Gaming, Mice, & the Internet

For many computer users now, games are a vital part of the computing experience. 1962 saw the creation of the first computer game, which was created by Steve Russel and MIT, which was dubbed Spacewar.

The mouse, one of the most basic components of modern computers, was created in 1964 by Douglass Engelbart. It obtained its name from the "tail" leading out of the device.

One of the most important aspects of computers today was invented in 1969. ARPA net was the original Internet, which provided the foundation for the Internet that we know today. This development would result in the evolution of knowledge and business across the entire planet.

It wasn't until 1970 that Intel entered the scene with the first dynamic RAM chip, which resulted in an explosion of computer science innovation.
On the heels of the RAM chip was the first microprocessor, which was also designed by Intel. These two components, in addition to the chip developed in 1958, would number among the core components of modern computers.

A year later, the floppy disk was created, gaining its name from the flexibility of the storage unit. This was the first step in allowing most people to transfer bits of data between unconnected computers.

The first networking card was created in 1973, allowing data transfer between connected computers. This is similar to the Internet, but allows for the computers to connect without use of the Internet.

Household PC's Emerge

The next three years were very important for computers. This is when companies began to develop systems for the average consumer. The Scelbi, Mark-8 Altair, IBM 5100, Apple I and II, TRS-80, and the Commodore Pet computers were the forerunners in this area. While expensive, these machines started the trend for computers within common households.

One of the most major breathroughs in computer software occurred in 1978 with the release of the VisiCalc Spreadsheet program. All development costs were paid for within a two week period of time, which makes this one of the most successful programs in computer history.

1979 was perhaps one of the most important years for the home computer user. This is the year that WordStar, the first word processing program, was released to the public for sale. This drastically altered the usefulness of computers for the everyday user.

The IBM Home computer quickly helped revolutionize the consumer market in 1981, as it was affordable for home owners and standard consumers. 1981 also saw the the mega-giant Microsoft enter the scene with the MS-DOS operating system. This operating system utterly changed computing forever, as it was easy enough for everyone to learn.

The Competition Begins : Apple vs. Microsoft

Computers saw yet another vital change during the year of 1983. The Apple Lisa computer was the first with a graphical user interface, or a GUI. Most modern programs contain a GUI, which allows them to be easy to use and pleasing for the eyes. This marked the beginning of the out dating of most text based only programs.

Beyond this point in computer history, many changes and alterations have occurred, from the Apple-Microsoft wars, to the developing of microcomputers and a variety of computer breakthroughs that have become an accepted part of our daily lives. Without the initial first steps of computer history, none of this would have been possible.

The difference between Core 2 Duo and Core Duo (Dual Core)

Dual core is simply a generic term referring to any processor package with two physical CPUs in one.

The Pentium D is simply two Pentium 4 Prescott cpus inefficiently paired together and ran as dual core.

The Core Duo is Intel's first generation dual core processor based upon the Pentium M (a Pentium III-4 hybrid) made mostly for laptops (though a few motherboard manufacturers have released desktop boards supporting the Core Duo CPU), and is much more efficiently than Pentium D.

The Core 2 Duo is Intel's second generation (hence, Core 2) processor made for desktops and laptops designed from the ground up to be fast while not consuming nearly as much power as previous CPUs.

The Pentium D, Core Duo, Core 2 Duo and Athlon X2 are all current CPUs that have dual cores in one package.

Note - Intel has dropped the Pentium name in favor of the Core architecture.

A Brief History
One might not suspect that the art, or scourge, of computer hacking was created at one of the havens for technological excellence.
True, at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), a group of students developed the technique and borrowed their name from the "hackers" of the late 1800s who found amusement in pranking the emerging telephone companies.Getting their laughs and skills from hacking and cracking into primitive computers and exploiting the Arpanet (predecessor to the internet), they created a novelty that would become the target of federal crackdown in years to come. To define hacking in short, we can say that an artistic criminal offense of breaking into another remote system without the owner's consent for the purpose of stealing information is what is hacking.However, the act of hacking started out innocently, and was basically a method of trying to figure out how computer systems worked. The 1970s saw the rise in "phreaking," or phone hacking, headed by John Draper. This method allowed the user of a "blue box,", when used with a Captain Crunch whistle of 2600 hertz which accessed the AT&T long distance system, to make free long distance calls. Hackers initiated with accessing the free phone calls through a varied range of sources, thereby managing to circumvent into the nation's radio system and the phoning system resulting in a tremendous phone fraud nationwide.After the age of "phreaking," computers became not only the target, but also the forum, for a growing hacker population to communicate. The creation of bulletin board systems (BBS) allowed this communication and the technological possibility of more serious government and credit card hacking became possible. At this time in the early 80's, hacking groups such as the Legion of Doom began to emerge in the United States, giving organization, and thus more power to hackers across the country.Once this happened, breaking into the computers became a legitimate activity, with its own groups and soon its own voice with the 2600 magazine, launched in 1984. The effects of computer hacking were serious. Two years later, inevitably, Congress launched the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act that outlawed hacking. Over the years, there was a series of noticeable occurrences as the worst consequential effect of computer hacking on more high profile cases, such as the Morris Worm, responsible for infecting government and university systems, and the Mitnick case in 1995, which captured Kevin Mitnick, steeling as many as 20000 credit card numbers. In 1999, security software became widely known by the public, and with the release of new Windows programs, which were littered with security weaknesses, they became successful because of necessity. This fraudulent act of computer hacking is perhaps the major problem, confronting the rapidly expanding population of Internet users today, with the systems still trying to battle online hackers.

Class X board exams optional from 2011; grading from this year

In a path-breaking move that will cheer lakhs of students across the country, Government on Monday announced that Class X examinations of the CBSE will be optional from the next academic year (2010-11) while the grading system will be introduced this year itself.

Over eight lakh students appearing for their class X exams in March 2010 have to take Board exams for which the results will be declared through grading system.

From 2011, the grading system will continue but the Board exams will become optional.

The Class X examinations of CBSE will be abolished from 2010-11 while the grading system will be introduced from 2009-10 (current academic year), Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal told reporters in New Delhi.

"After the Board examination is abolished in 2011 (for class X), students will have choice to take the Board exam on demand for transfer (to another school) or entry into pre-university institutes," Sibal said.

The exam on demand is also available to students who want to continue in the same school, he said. Under the new system, students who wish to continue in the same school after class X, need not take Board exam from 2011.

On the grading system, he said it will be a "continuous, comprehensive evaluation" which will be good for the students. However, along with grades, students can also ask for their percentile.

New sessions will be starting in few days. First day means meeting lots of new people who will be your classmates for the next 2/3/4 years and probably you will stay in touch with them for your whole life. If you ask me what is compulsory for an engineer, i will suggest that not study , seriously it is the environment, extra curricular activities and the attitude that i can clear the exam in 1 night study , makes a complete engineer Wink. A feature which u will only find in engineer is that he works mostly on deadlines and give his/her best output in pressure. So guys be ready for that also.

Guys also think a bit about first day, ragging etc. Ragging is nothing new and strange, don't be afraid of it. Co-operate with your seniors and don't resist talking to them. They will probably become your best friends in college. Seniors will always guide you and help you through out your college life. Ask them about their experiences, take notes from them and don't be shy asking for books .

FAT32 { File Allocation Table }

The File Allocation Table (FAT) file system is a simple file system originally designed for small disks and simple folder structures. The FAT file system is named for its method of organization, the file allocation table, which resides at the beginning of the volume. To protect the volume, two copies of the table are kept, in case one becomes damaged. In addition, the file allocation tables and the root folder must be stored in a fixed location so that the files needed to start the system can be correctly located.

A volume formatted with the FAT file system is allocated in clusters. The default cluster size is determined by the size of the volume. For the FAT file system, the cluster number must fit in 16 bits and must be a power of two.

FAT32 is a derivative of the File Allocation Table (FAT) file system that supports drives with over 2GB of storage. Because FAT32 drives can contain more than 65,526 clusters, smaller clusters are used than on large FAT16 drives. This method results in more efficient space allocation on the FAT32 drive.

The largest possible file for a FAT32 drive is 4GB minus 2 bytes.

The FAT32 file system includes four bytes per cluster within the file allocation table. Note that the high 4 bits of the 32-bit values in the FAT32 file allocation table are reserved and are not part of the cluster number.

Shiney Ahuja Still In Police Custody

A local court yesterday extended the judicial custody of actor shiney ahuja accused of raping his maid, till July 30. Though the defamed actor’s lawyer Shrikant Shivade put his argument forward seeking bail, the court gave in to the prosecution’s demand of extending the judicial custody as the police is still probing into the case.

This is the third extension of judicial custody for Bollywood actor, who has been lodged at Arthur Road jail, even as the sessions court had earlier turned down his bail plea on the grounds that he might influence the independent witnesses.

Saving your document:
To write HTML, you will need a simple text editor. For Macintosh, I suggest using SimpleText, and for Windows, I suggest using Notepad or WordPad. Viewing your document:

As you have learned, tags are the instructions that tell the web browser where to put things and how to make them look. Each tag begins with a left angle bracket ( < ) and end with a right angle bracket ( > ) Inbetween the angle brackets, place the tag name like this:That tag is called a starting tag, and usually each starting tag has a closing tag like this: .
Are you wondering what this pair of tags will tell your browser to do? It is pretty simple. The starting tag, , tells your Web browser that "Hey, here is the start of a file that contains HTML coded information." And the ending tag, , tells your Web browser that "Okay, here is the end of my HTML file."

I had friends in many colleges Strating from IITs, NITS and many UPTU colleges, from those who work hard are settled in life, does not matter from which college they were :) so now it is the time to forget the tension of the college name, it is time to make plans of the new life, new college, new people and lots more which is going to come in your way,

New sessions will be starting in few days. First day means meeting lots of new people who will be your class mates for the next 4 years and probably you will stay in touch with them for your whole life. College is different from the School, you can bunk classes or come to the College late. You can go out for a movie if you don't feel like attending classes or just hang out with your pals in the canteen.

If you ask me what is compulsory for an enginee, i will suggest that not study :) seriously it is the environment, extra curricular activities and the attitude that i can clear the exam in 1 night study :) makes a complete engineer . A feature which u will only find in engineer is that he works mostly on deadlines ;) and give his/her best output in pressure. So guys be ready for that also.

Guys also think a bit about first day, ragging etc, Ragging is nothing new and strange, don't be afraid of it. Cooperate with your seniors and don't resist talking to them. They will probably become your best friends in college. Seniors will always guide you and help you through out your college life. Ask them about their experiences, take notes from them and don't be shy asking for books :)

Try to explore new things as much as possible :) participate in most of the activities :) and if your college does not have start some activity there.

Engineering student commits suicide in AP

Hyderabad, July 9 (PTI) Apparently depressed over not getting admission into her desired branch at a university in Tamil Nadu, a second-year B Tech student today jumped to death from her house in Kothapet area here, police said. According to Saroornagar police, A Tejaswi (19), who was pursuing second-year engineering in Electronics and Communication (ECE) branch at a college here was "unable" to get admission in her desired branch at Shastra University of Tanjavur in Tamil Nadu, forcing her to resort to the extreme step.

Tejaswi jumped from the terrace of the fifth-floor of her apartment, they said. "She seems to have been under depression for not getting admitted in ECE branch at Shastra University and resorted to the extreme step this morning," an investigating officer told PTI. Police said they found a suicide note purportedly written by Tejaswi in Telugu, from her bedroom which stated she "did not like this life".

An autopsy was conducted on Tejaswi''s body and further investigations were underway.

Tears and tributes mark Jackson's final curtain

A gold-plated casket bearing Michael Jackson took center stage on Tuesday as hundreds of millions worldwide bade farewell to the King of Pop in the final curtain call of his glittering career.

Tears and tributes flowed as mourners gathered at Los Angeles's Staples Center for a star-studded but somber celebration of the music superstar's turbulent life and times.

Jackson's 11-year-old daughter Paris tearfully addressed mourners in the heart-breaking last act of a two-hour service.

"Ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine. And I just wanted to say I love him so much," she said before dissolving into tears and being hugged by Jackson's sister, Janet.

Jackson's poignant journey began with a private service shortly after 8:15 am (1515 GMT) as family and friends gathered at the picturesque Forest Lawn mortuary high in the Hollywood Hills.

As the ceremony ended, pallbearers carrying Jackson's golden casket swathed with red flowers emerged and loaded it into a black hearse, under the watchful eye of mourners and around 20 media helicopters hovering overhead.

A motorcade of luxury vehicles then made a stately procession to the 20,000-capacity Staples Center, where family, friends and celebrities rubbed shoulders with ordinary fans who had won tickets via an online lottery.

Jackson's casket was placed at the front of the stage as the service began with Smokey Robinson reading letters of condolence from those unable to attend, including a tribute from former South African president Nelson Mandela.

"Michael was a giant and a legend in the music industry. And we mourn with the millions of fans worldwide," Mandela's tribute read.

Motown diva Diana Ross meanwhile -- named by Jackson in his will as an alternative guardian to his children -- said she had chosen to mourn privately.

"Michael was a personal love of mine, a treasured part of my world, part of the fabric of my life," Ross's tribute said. "Michael wanted me to be there for his children, and I will be there if they ever need me."

Veteran poet and writer Maya Angelou paid tribute to Jackson in a moving elegy read by Queen Latifah. "Sing our songs among the stars and walk our dances across the face of the moon," Angelou wrote.

Tributes to Jackson from friends and associates were punctuated by performances from Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder and Jennifer Hudson as Jackson's family looked on approvingly. Jackson's brothers all wore matching suits and their sibling's signature solo sequined glove.

Jermaine Jackson later brought the house down with a rendition of Charlie Chaplin's classic ode to optimism, "Smile," a song covered by Michael Jackson on the 1995 "History" album.

One of the biggest ovations came after rousing comments remarks by reverend Al Sharpton who told Jackson's children to disregard the lurid stories that often swirled around their father.

"I want his three children to know -- there weren't nothing strange about your daddy," Sharpton said. "It was strange what your daddy had to deal with but he dealt with it."

The service drew to a close with a performance of Jackson's clarion call to end global suffering, "Heal the World," before members of the star's family offered individual tributes.

Streets surrounding the venue had been sealed off before dawn where thousands of police officers were deployed to guard against large crowds of ticketless fans.

A live feed of the service was made available free to television networks, while the event was being streamed via social networking websites Facebook and MySpace, officials said.

Fans gathered to sing Jackson's greatest hits and watch his videos ahead of the event in cities across the globe such as Tokyo and Hong Kong.

US President Barack Obama meanwhile told CNN in an interview from Russia said Jackson was "one of the greatest entertainers of our generation."

"I think like Elvis, like (Frank) Sinatra, like the Beatles, he became a core part of our culture," Obama said, acknowledging the "tragedy" that was a part of the singer's life.

Jackson sold more than 750 million albums during a four-decade career that was ultimately overshadowed by repeated allegations of child abuse, his startling physical transformation and eccentric behavior.

Local and federal law enforcement agencies continue to probe the circumstances of his death on June 25 at the age of 50.

The Los Angeles County Coroner's office has said it will not issue a final cause of death for "several weeks" when the results of exhaustive toxicology tests are known.

Lawyers meanwhile are busy untangling the labyrinth of legal issues that have emerged in the aftermath of Jackson's death.

On Monday, a Los Angeles judge replaced Jackson's mother as temporary administrator of his estate with two of the pop icon's business associates, as instructed by a 2002 will.

How to join video files together with ConvertXtoDVD?

2) Add the first video file in ConvertXtoDVD by clicking on File / Add one or more video files in the main menu or by using the green icon "+" to the right of the window, or have made a drag video files .

3) Click on the video file to select it and then right-click to select merge with other files.

4) In the content editor window title, click on the icon of the video to the right of first file to include a second video. ConvertXtoDVD will convert the two files into one, eliminating all cuts there would be between the two files if they are played one after another. We must see this as a window bar chronological time with the top left and right end.

5) Once your files are added, click OK. If you have audio or subtitles to add, you can add them to this window (under the place the video file).

6) Returning to the main window if you click on File set, you will see the list of files to convert. Click Convert. If you have inserted a blank DVD in your burner, the burning will start automatically.

New Delhi, May 22 , Two girls from Faridabad and Mumbai shared the top honours by securing 98.4 per cent marks in the Class XII exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education as 81 per cent of 6.37 lakh candidates cleared the test.

Tannvi Aggrawal from Apeejay School, Faridabad, and Mritika Sen, student of Rajhans Vidyalaya Andheri West, Mumbai, emerged toppers in the test, held in March this year, securing 492 marks out of 500.

While Aggrawal is from Commerce stream, Sen wrote the papers in Science stream, the CBSE said.

In Delhi region, Subhasis Vadra of DPS R K Puram secured the first position with 490 marks in Science stream while Priyanka Bagai of Convent of Jesus and Mary, Central Delhi, topped in the Commerce stream with 488 marks.

Girls registered a pass percentage of 85.94 against 77.40 of boys.

A total of 6,37,976 students were registered for this year's exam. This year's pass percentage marks an increase of 0.09 per cent over the pass rate of last year.

A total of 3,40,876 students, including 1,61,139 girls, secured over 60 per cent marks. In Delhi, 71,130 students, including 38,622 girls, got more than 60 per cent marks.

PTU examinations postponed

Punjab Technical University (PTU), Jalandhar has decided to postpone all its examinations for all the regular courses running in the colleges affiliated to PTU scheduled to commence from May 18, 2009 to May 26, 2009

The results that have been out include those of MCA, MBA (international business), M Pharma, B Tech semester VII and some parts of semester V. The college authorities said due to the late results of the odd semesters, the university could not conduct even the semester examinations timely.

“Students are still not clear whether they will have to reappear for any subject. If examinations are held as per schedule, they are left with less than a minimum stipulated period of 15 days to fill up forms and prepare for their reappear,” they explained.
They also blamed internal politics, mushrooming of colleges, increased student strength, understaffing and contractual system of employment for this inefficiency and poor examination system.

Prachi Desai - Excited To Play Don’s Wife

Prachi Desai has teamed up with mentor Ekta Kapoor for Once Upon A Time, in which she plays a don’s wife. Prachi did a lot of homework for the role of a Muslim working class girl in the 1970s, including visiting Muslim localities.

Prachi said she took up the role as she was bored of playing conventional roles. Playing a don’s wife was something she could’nt resist.

The role requires Prachi to look like a Muslim working-class girl in 1975 who gets involved with a don. Prachi along with Ekta has been catching up on all the video footage and hunting for clothes all over to prepare for the role.

She went to the Muslim localities of Mumbai last month, including Haji Ali, to pick up salwar-kameez suits. “This character is from a time that existed before me. Yes, I’ve done plenty of reading on my character. I want to look and feel like Mehjabeen. And it’s such a challenge,” said Prachi.

Tendulkar to miss Hamilton ODI

Sachin Tendulkar will miss the fourth one-day international against New Zealand in Hamilton on Wednesday because of an abdomen injury. The Indian team management will monitor Tendulkar’s fitness and he has not been ruled out of the final ODI on March 14 as yet.

Tendulkar sustained the injury when he was hit on the stomach by Iain O’Brien during the second match in Wellington. He played the third game but aggravated the injury during his innings of 163 off 133 balls; he had to retire hurt at the end of the 45th over. Scans have revealed that Tendulkar has suffered swelling and bruising.

Younis Khan has appealed to cricket’s administrators to save the game in Pakistan, or risk pushing future generations into the clutches of terrorists. The Pakistan captain fears that an extended boycott by touring teams could lead to a dramatic decline in interest and participation in cricket among the nation’s youth. That, in turn, could invite corrupting influences to fill the void that might otherwise have been occupied by sport, Younis argued.

“Our future as a nation is in our youngsters’ hands,” Younis told Cricinfo. “Sport helps to make good human beings. If the sport is not there, the children can do silly things. We have to be very careful about that. Nobody wants to see children going down a bad path and finding themselves involved with bombs and things like that. We all must do something to stop that happening.

“Maybe in the future we will be alone [as a cricketing nation] and that would be very sad, especially for the youngsters. When I was a boy, I loved watching Imran Khan, Javed Miandad and Wasim Akram playing against great teams from overseas. It is because of them - seeing them play - that I also played the game. But what if no one comes to Pakistan? How will the youngsters know about the game? What will they do?

“I appeal for all the bosses and the ICC not let cricket die here. They must think about all the factors, including what will become of the youngsters of Pakistan. “I have seen a lot in my career,” he said. “At the last World Cup, Bob Woolmer died and that was a terrible thing. Then, just after I had been made the captain, we have this shocking attack. In his blog recently Amitabh Bachchan described A R Rahman’s Oscar sweep as the happiest day for Indians and the film industry.

The whole of Bollywood has got together to praise A R Rahman and Resul Pookutty after the duo created history on Sunday evening in Los Angeles by winning the Oscars in the categories they were nominated for.

Amitabh Bachchan became one of the first ones by commenting on his blog: “My warmest and heartiest congratulations to A.R. Rahman and Resul (Pookutty) for winning recognition in music and sound and to Gulzar for co-assisting Rahman in the lyric category.”

Gulzar is credited for the lyrics of the song ‘Jai Ho’ which got Rahman the Oscar for Best Song.

Mumbai: As his son Azharuddin walked the red carpet at the Oscars in Los Angeles, an overwhelmed Mohammad Esmail Shaikh Usman wept after Slumdog Millionarie swept the Academy Awards.

"Flowers have bloomed from the dirty gutters of Mumbai slums. This is how I see the achievement of our poor deprived children," said Usman, whose son played an important role in the film that bagged eight Oscars yesterday.

Television crews and media personnel poured into Garib Nagar slum, where Usman and many of his neighbours are living in the open after their homes were demolished in civic drive for clearing the slums.

Two children picked up from the slum to play key roles - Azharuddin and Rubina - travelled to Los Angeles for cinema's biggest awards ceremony.

Both children were up on stage when producer Christian Colson went up to receive the Oscar for best film.

An emotional Usman, who deals in used furniture, said nobody had expected that people from the slums would achieve the pinnacle of international success, beyond most movie stars of the country.

"It is because of the prayers of all my countrymen, all Indians and the slumd-wellers of Mumbai," Usman said shortly after the awards were announced for the film that tracks the rags-to-riches story of a Mumbai slum boy who wins Rs20 million (Dh1.67 million) in television game show.

He said people in his neighbourhood had been praying in mosques, temples, churches and gurudwaras, seeking blessings for the success of the movie and the children of the slum.

"Allah has showered us all with his benevolence and mercy, and I accept it in all humility. This day is like Eid for all of us. Though we cannot afford much, we shall try to make it a memorable event when the children return from America," Usman said in a choked voice. He acknowledged that the children had not belied the country's great expectations that had been built up over the past weeks. "Due to them, our country feels proud. Now we, their parents can face society with our heads held high."

His friend of 40 years Yakub Abdul Shaikh stood beside him, helping him cope with his sudden celebrity status.

"Isn't it an irony that poor slum boys and girls, who have never worn a new shirt or frock in all their lives, today stand proudly before the whole world?" Yakub said, tears welling up.

"This will inspire the poorest of people to have hopes in life, do their best and leave the rest to the Almighty," Yakub urged.

Added Naazna Umar Shaikh, sitting under a tree in the municipal garden that has been her home for three months: "This is the country's achievement, our poor children have worked hard and sincerely. We pray that this now helps improve their lot and safeguard their future."

A.R. Rahman who is the toast of the country hasn’t reached this stage without sheer passion for what he does best - music. A.R.Rahman’s brother-in-law, who is also named Rahman, is a well known actor in Kerala and has done roles in many Tamil movies like Sangamam, which again had music by A.R.R. Talking to the media after his brother-in-law won the Oscars, the actor revealed how passionate the maestro is about his music.

“It is his sheer commitment towards music that has brought him here”, says Rahman. Anil Kapoor has planned a film called ‘Ayesha’ exclusively for his daughter Sonam Kapoor. He has roped in writer Devika Bhagat to write the narrative of ‘Ayesha’, which is based on Jane Austen’s famous novel ‘Emma’. Sonam gets to play desi Emma, one who is young, witty and rich. Devika has earlier penned the story of Bachna Ae Haseeno .

Rohan Antao blames Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire for the reported romance between Freida and her co-star Dev Patel, six years her junior.

“She ended it with me after getting close to Dev Patel. Now everywhere I go I see them on billboards. I am devastated,” the 24-year-old Antao said.

About the Oscar-winning movie, he stated, “I hate the film. It wrecked my relationship. As soon as it became a success and Freida started spending all her time with Dev, she ended it,” he added.

Shahrukh’s “Billu” Once Again Between Controversies

The workers of MNS in Mumbai today launched a peaceful protest against screening of the film ‘Billu’ for its song ‘Marjaani‘, which allegedly contains “objectionable words”.

The film produced by Red Chillies Productions, partly owned by Shahrukh Khan had to be renamed ‘Billu’ from ‘Billu Barber’ after some barber associations objected to use of the word “barber” in the title.

“There is a song in the film called Marjaani, which contains some objectionable words. We had requested the producer on phone to remove those words but they remained adamant. This is why we have launched a peaceful agitation to remove the whole song from the film,” MNS Secretary Aslam Bhai Khot told reporters.

Meanwhile, the film’s leading actor Irrfan Khan, who plays the title role of ‘Billu’ has expressed his surprise at the protest. “The misunderstanding regarding the song had been cleared by Shahrukh Khan. What is the basis of this protest except that they need public attention,” Irrfan said.

We put in so much hard work for a film, that’s why Fridays make me so nervous. But Delhi 6 is a good film and made very well. It is a very realistic film and its music is really appealing. As an actor I hope to meet the expectations of people. Rakeysh Mehra and I had wanted to work with each other for very long. He met every expectation of mine. It was wonderful working with him. Sonam (Kapoor) is a wonderful person and a very promising actress. It was a pleasure having her on the sets. She is really hardworking.

3. Discuss

Have all necessary material with you, such as pens, pencils, rulers or special equipment while in an examination.
Have a relaxing night before your exams. Have an early night, and try to have a healthy breakfast.
Read the full Question paper. Where you have choices, decide which ones you plan to answer.
Spend some time drafting a plan for the questions you choose to answer.
While you are answering one question, information about another may suddenly occur to you. Jot it down somewhere because when you come to that question perhaps an hour later, you may have forgotten it.
Don’t leave any questions unanswered.
Never leave the room early. If you have time at the end, go over your work, add information (eg in the margin). You can’t return if you suddenly remember a fact after you have left.
Do not spend too long on multiple choice questions.
With multiple choice questions it is best to cover the answers and work out your own before looking at the choices on paper. If you can’t answer the question come back to it later - have a guess.
No matter how well you answer other questions, you must leave time for all questions - a perfect answer can still only earn a certain number of marks. If you write nothing, you can’t receive any marks and you have lost all your marks for a particular question. Write something - it may at least give you a few points.

And though they are wonderful to be eaten raw, there's nothing more fulfilling than cooking them with milk and dry fruits in the form of a dessert! Yes, Carrot Halwa, or "Gaajar ka halwa" is a very popular dessert and I'm sure anyone who's ever been to an Indian restaurant would have left with sweet memories about it!! And what's more encouraging is the fact that it is indeed very simple and quick to cook; you can even make it in a microwave!! So try this healthy recipe for a quick satiation of your sweet tooth.

Ingredients
4 cups carrots - shredded
2 cups sugar
2 1/2 cups whole milk or khoya
1/2 cup ghee (clarified butter)
1-2 tsp cardamom powder
1/2 cup dry fruits - pistachio,almonds,cashews-chopped or slivered

Method
Take a heavy saucepan and add the ghee to it. Cook the carrots in it till evenly coated. Now add the milk (or khoya) and sugar and let it be completely soaked by the carrots. Do not add water. Keep cooking on low to medium heat till carrots are well done.Now add half of the dry fruits, cardamom powder. Remove from flame and set to cool.
You can do this whole process in the microwave too! So add this to your microwave-recipes list and be sure to try it when you are in need of a healthy and quick dessert.

Serve it warm, garnished with pistachios and other dry fruits. It also tastes delicious with vanilla ice cream or custard.

Taking two important decisions towards a revival path, scam-hit Satyam Computer Services on Thursday appointed A S Murthy as the CEO and said it has received bank sanction for Rs 600 crore for meeting working capital requirements.

"A S Murty has been appointed as Satyam's chief executive officer with immediate effect," Member of the Board Deepak Parekh said in a statement.

Besides, the board on Thursday confirmed receiving bank sanctions for a total sum of Rs 600 crore ($130 million) as a planned fund infusion towards working capital requirements.

This funding, along with healthy collections, is expected to help the company tide over its financial challenges.
Satyam also reaffirmed that January 9 salaries (globally) and the fortnightly salary in February 9 (for its US-based associates) have been met from its internal accruals.

"US payroll is run fortnightly for US based associates and has been so since company's inception," he said.

The Board also announced the appointment of Homi Khusrokhan and Partho Datta as Special Advisors to the Board, to assist in management and finance areas, respectively. The Special Advisors, along with Boston Consulting Group, will work pro bono and will assist the newly-named CEO and the Board, in defining priorities and executing them, effectively.
